When it's a technocrane. A close friend of mine owns a few and says they are used just as often for horizontal moves as vertical or a combination of the two. This is a shot from a set we were on together were the "dolly move" was from above the east river into an actor standing on the bank. Not too many other ways of getting a shot like that this easily. It was too windy for a drone and that's not a device I'd want to hang an Alexa from, above the East River. But it all went well. This was our first day of a week of shooting NYC locations for a major Chinese motion picture called Mojin - The Lost Legend.
